Director's Desk

Should you allow security services company management to be in direct touch with you?

Dear Reader,
In my years of heading a security and housekeeping agency, one of the most common things I have noticed is that the owners/top management of the companies do not like to speak to security services company’s management themselves but wish to take feedback via their staff. However, when it comes to security services I feel being in touch with their senior management is very critical as they should be comfortable to be in touch with you directly when they feel that something unethical is going on at your premises.

For example, a security manager was sending / selling scrap out of the premises without challan. We confronted this with the manager and his general manager but it seemed that both were in tandem. When we tried to raise this concern with the senior management we were not given the access and the pilferage continued. Subsequently, our services were terminated.

A security officer was complaining about every small mistake like guards’ shoes not being polished and a cutting in the register. He kept threatening to terminate our services. The Directors were not interested in meeting us. Subsequently the security officer asked us for a loan of twenty thousand for his sister’s marriage. Loan was given and complaints got stopped.

This is not an exception and I get 1-2 cases like this every month and we find our hands tied in such a situation.

I hope it helps and would urge all of you to give access to your security providers’ top management to connect with you in such situations.

Regards,

Ravi Kapur
